The two sides

A daycare in Flower Mound that received its licence on 26 August and was still getting everything in place, and a Fort Worth childcare centre that includes meals for every child. On the other side, a caterer delivering breakfast, lunch and snacks across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro under the federal child-care meal programme, and a caterer serving daycares and preschools mainly in Tarrant County, with daily delivery.

What happened
01
We read the state licence file for daycares that had just opened and wrote to them, and to meal caterers in the same area.
02
The Flower Mound director said they were still getting set up and asked for caterers, menus and pricing. The Fort Worth owner said meals were included for every child and she needed someone reliable for breakfast, lunch and snacks.
03
One caterer told us it delivered across the whole metro and was compliant with the meal programme. The other said it served Tarrant County and the cities around it.
04
We matched by delivery area: the metro-wide caterer with Flower Mound, the Tarrant County caterer with Fort Worth. Each side paid its own fee and the introductions went out by email.
Why it worked

A daycare that opened this month has children to feed on Monday and no food contract yet. Finding it in its first weeks is the whole job.
